Purpose <p>The aim of the present study was to compare and evaluate the difference between alar base symmetry with the help of photogrammetry in unilateral complete cleft alveolus patients treated with Cancellous and Cortico-cancellous anterior iliac crest bone graft.</p> Patients and Method <p>Total 20 patients were enrolled and randomly allocated into two groups, each comprises of 10 patients. Preoperatively and post-operatively photographs were taken for evaluation of nasal symmetry achieved in both the groups. Intra-group evaluation was done first to rule out the significant changes obtained from each type of bone graft followed by inter-group comparison to probe the effect of suitable bone graft on nasal symmetry.</p> Result <p>Paired <i>t</i> test was used for intra-group comparison and unpaired <i>t</i> test was applied for inter-group results. The <i>p</i> value was &lt; 0.005 in case of intra-group and inter-group comparison and results obtained were more favorable for group II patients in which cortico-cancellous bone graft was used as far as the alar base symmetry is concern.</p> Conclusion <p>This photogrammetric method is a reliable method to differentiate preoperative and postoperative changes clinically and aesthetically. Cortico-cancellous bone graft is better than cancellous bone graft when alar base symmetry and achieving facial contour is concern.</p>

Purpose

Result

Conclusion
