Comparative Study of Sterile Gelatin Sponge Soaked in Triple Antibiotic Paste Vs Abgel in Extraction Socket—A Prospective Study
摘要
Complications are very common after extraction. Hence, various medicament packing’s are tried to prevent them.
AimTo evaluate the efficacy of triple antibiotic paste soaked Abgel in reducing pain and improve mouth opening after extraction.
Materials and MethodsStudy with reference number—IHEC/SDC/OMFS-2301/23/274 with dated as August 21, 2023. A total of 128 patients were divided in group A (Triple antibiotic soaked Abgel) and group B (conventional Abgel packing). Pain was assessed on day three and seven using a 10-point visual analog scale. Mouth opening was assessed on day zero, three and seven.
Statistical Analysis.
Data interpreted with unpaired t test and Mann–Whitney U test with p < 0.05 considered statistically significant.
ResultsOn day three, VAS score in group A was 2 and group B was 3, which reduced to zero on day seven for both. Baseline interincisal mouth opening in group A was 38 mm, while 39 mm for group B. On day three, 33 mm in group A and 29.5 mm in group B. However, on postoperative day seven, valves returned to baseline in both groups.
ConclusionTriple antibiotic soaked Abgel is more efficacious than conventional Abgel in reducing postoperative sequelae.
