Context <p>Dental extraction remains one of the most anxiety-inducing procedures in dentistry. This pervasive fear, prevalent not only in children but also in adults, often leads to neglected dental treatments and compromised oral hygiene. Over the years, various techniques have been developed to mitigate dental anxiety.</p> Aim <p>This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of virtual reality (VR) in reducing anxiety during dental extractions.</p> Materials and Methods <p>A split-mouth study involving 34 patients was conducted. Each patient underwent dental extraction using the PROCUS VR headset gear. Anxiety levels were assessed preoperatively and postoperatively using the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS).</p> Statistical Analysis <p>Mann–Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used for statistical analysis.</p> Results <p>The control group exhibited a mean preoperative anxiety score of 7.94 ± 3.15, which increased to 11.06 ± 4.03 postoperatively. Conversely, the intervention group had a mean preoperative anxiety score of 7.79 ± 1.52 and a postoperative score of 8.39 ± 2.06, indicating a statistically significant difference in the control group.</p> Conclusion <p>Virtual reality effectively reduces anxiety during dental extractions without significantly impacting heart rate.</p>

Context
