“The Curious Case of the Earring Embedded in a Preauricular Region”

Jewelry wearing holds a long-standing history and significance in Indian culture. Simple cuts, lacerations due to jewelry are common, but earring injuries penetrating in the facial spaces are uncommon. Here, we present a case of penetrating earring injury that was treated successfully.

Earring-related injuries are well described, but earring getting embedded in the preauricular region is uncommon. A rare case of 56-year-old female reported to our department with an uncommon injury of her earring embedded in the preauricular region.

Understanding the risk factors, proper piercing techniques and right aftercare measures can significantly reduce the incidence of these injuries.
