The Vascular Vanisher: Sclerotherapy’s Role in Hemangioma Regression

Vascular anomalies encompass a diverse group of developmental or congenital lesions, such as static vascular malformations and proliferative vascular tumors. Hemangiomas, benign vascular neoplasms, commonly affect newborns and infants, often appearing in the head and neck region, particularly on the lips, tongue, buccal mucosa, gingiva, and palate. Treatment options include sclerotherapy, surgery, embolization, laser therapy, systemic corticosteroids, cryotherapy, interferon alpha, electrochemical therapy, and radiation therapy. Sclerotherapy, involving direct injection of a sclerosing agent, is a widely accepted non-invasive approach. This paper presents the clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with oral hemangiomas treated at our institution, highlighting the effectiveness and safety of sclerotherapy.
