摘要

Purpose

To propose a novel technique for the separation of the pterygomaxillary articulation, called the fulcrum technique.

Method

The technique utilizes Tessier spreaders at the pyriform and the maxillary buttresses in a certain way to create the fulcrum effect leading to a snappy and effortless separation of the maxilla from the pterygoid articulation.

Result

This technique of pterygomaxillary separation is believed to make it a less arduous task, that may circumvent all the associated consequences of pterygomaxillary dysjunction for any maxillofacial surgeon in the pursuit of orthognathic surgery.

Conclusion

This technique is simple, less cumbersome with minimal or no complications and perhaps has a greater advantage over all the techniques described in the past.
