Green and Facile Extraction of Biomass-Derived Chitin from House Cricket (Acheta domesticus) Using a Choline Chloride–Urea Based Deep Eutectic Solvent System
摘要
Given their widespread and renewable biomass, house crickets (Acheta domesticus) offer enormous potential for the production of chitin. Furthermore, advancing novel extraction techniques and applying environmentally benign solvents are crucial for enhancing the valorization process. Chitins were extracted from house crickets involving deep eutectic solvents (DES) as green solvents and then compared to conventional processes. The process involved delipidation, demineralization, and deproteinization. During delipidation, fat content was reduced by up to 63.28%. In the demineralization stage, mineral content decreased by 41.30% with DES and 60.86% using the conventional method. Deproteinization using DES reduced protein content by 96%, surpassing the conventional method at 87.35%. FTIR analysis confirmed the structure of the extracted chitin compared to commercial chitin, showing characteristic bands at 3270 cm⁻¹ (secondary amides), 1310 cm⁻¹ (C–N in–NHCOCH₃), and 1066 cm⁻¹ (ether compounds). SEM images further validated the similarity between commercial and cricket-derived chitin in pore structure and elemental composition. House cricket biomass can be refined into chitin using green solvents, making the process sustainable and environmentally relevant.
