<p>The Lamiaceae family, known for its rich aromatic plants such as lavender, rosemary, and thyme, is extensively cultivated for essential oil production. However, distillation of these plants generates significant by-products, including solid biomass, hydrosols, and wastewater, which are often discarded, causing environmental challenges. This study explores novel valorization strategies for these by-products, emphasizing their potential to create high-value products and contributing towards sustainable development. Post-distillation solid residues, rich in bioactive compounds, exhibit antioxidant, antimicrobial, and enzyme-modulating properties posing for their incorporation in nutraceuticals, food preservation, and cosmetics. Additionally, these residues can be converted into biochar for soil amendments, biosorbents for water treatment, or processed for biogas and biofuel production. Hydrosols, regarded as waste liquid, have potential as eco-friendly preservatives and natural biopesticides. In contrast, wastewater, rich in nutrients, has potential as a liquid foliar spray, enhancing plant growth and essential oil yield. Results revealed that valorization of Lamiaceae distillation by-products not only reduces environmental wastes, but rather presents new applications in agriculture, energy, and cosmetics. This study highlights the need for further research into optimizing these processes to maximize the economic and environmental benefits of aromatic plant distillation by-products.
