摘要

Accurate biogas flow monitoring is crucial for efficiently operating biogas plants and distributing biogas. However, biogas projects often employ natural gas metering equipment, which has large measurement errors in normal situations due to differences in raw biogas quality and flow compared to natural gas. To develop improved monitoring methods, the features of raw biogas flow, the source of inaccuracy, and the performance of current monitoring technologies are analyzed. The results suggest that excessive moisture content and considerable changes in biogas flow rate are the main causes of measurement errors. Ultrasonic flowmeters are not appropriate for measuring raw biogas with high moisture content; a maximum inaccuracy of 104% has been found in real applications. Roots flowmeters can increase measurement accuracy once biogas has been dehydrated below the dew point. The roots flowmeter has a measuring error of -16.6% when the biogas flow rate is less than 2.02 m³/h due to significant flow fluctuations. In that circumstance, the membrane flowmeter is the preferred choice.
