Prediction of fusion cross-sections in 40Ar-induced fusion reactions

A new empirical formula for the astrophysical S-factor has been presented as a function of the barrier height, center of mass energy, Coulomb interaction parameter. A total of 23 fusion reactions involving 40Ar projectiles with different targets were taken into account. The proposed formula is applicable in the atomic number and mass number range of compound nuclei \(38\le Z\le 110\) 38 Z 110 and \(80\le A \le 278\) 80 A 278 respectively. Further, we studied the fusion cross-sections of 40Ar projectiles using Wong formula, and Glas - Mosel formula for 40Ca to \(^{238}\) 238 U targets. The projected fusion cross-sections using the S-factor correlate well with the observed value. This research might lead to the discovery of new isotopes of superheavy elements via 40Ar-induced fusion processes. Furthermore, this research allows for the investigation of issues such as Coulomb fission, quasi-fission, and fusion-fission processes in the production of superheavy elements.
