<p>This study examines whether altruistic behavior in individuals with communal narcissistic tendencies is driven by empathy. In Study 1, the relationships between altruistic behavior, communal narcissism, affective empathy, and cognitive empathy were explored in a large sample of university students. In Study 2, participants were categorized into two groups based on their levels of communal narcissism. These participants then completed a dictator game task designed to assess state empathy and altruistic behavior. The results indicate that both affective and cognitive empathy partially mediate the relationship between communal narcissism and altruistic behavior, with affective empathy playing a stronger mediating role than cognitive empathy. Among individuals with high communal narcissism, affective empathy—rather than communal narcissism itself—was a significant predictor of altruistic behavior. The findings are interpreted through the lens of the empathy mediating hypothesis, suggesting that in collectivist cultures, the altruistic behaviors of individuals with communal narcissism are more strongly influenced by affective empathy and state empathy than by communal narcissism itself.</p>
