<p>This study investigated the morphology, molecular identification, seasonal changes, and environmental factors influencing the distribution of <i>Diplectanum aequans</i> infecting the gills of <i>Dicentrarchus labrax</i>. This host was collected from Ras ElBar, New Damietta, and Damietta Harbor, at Damietta governorate from Dec. 2024 to Nov. 2025. Morphological examination investigated external features of <i>Diplectanum</i>, including a well-developed posterior haptor with spiny tegument, large dome shape sensory papillae, and two sclerotized hooks. Molecular characterization based on PCR amplification, and NCBI BLAST alignment of ribosomal DNA regions (28 sRNA and ITS genes) confirmed the parasite 100% identity with <i>Diplectanum aequans</i>, with fragment sizes of approximately 920&#xa0;bp for 28S rRNA and 960&#xa0;bp for ITS. The highest prevalence was recorded during winter and in new Damietta site. The prevalence of <i>Diplectanum aequans</i> was negatively correlated with water temperature, salinity and pH, and was correlated positively with dissolved oxygen.</p>
