Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Screening Algorithm in Transgender and Gender Diverse Populations
摘要
Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) individuals face barriers to routine cancer screening, and no standardized breast cancer screening guidelines currently exist for this population. This review aims to propose an inclusive, multidisciplinary screening algorithm tailored to TGD individuals.
Recent FindingsBreast cancer risk in TGD populations is poorly defined, with limited data on incidence. Risk may be influenced by hormone therapy, surgical chest reconstruction, and personal or familial cancer history. Existing screening guidelines lack specificity for gender-diverse anatomy and care pathways.
SummaryWe reviewed published guidelines and expert recommendations to develop a breast cancer screening algorithm for TGD individuals. For transfeminine patients, screening should consider duration of estrogen exposure and additional risk factors. For transmasculine patients, chest surgery type and genetic risk inform screening decisions. This framework supports individualized, risk-based screening and highlights the need for further research to validate screening protocols in TGD populations.
