Purpose of Review <p>This review summarizes the importance of accruing a diverse patient population onto breast cancer clinical trials and research studies. We also review the importance of diversity in the cancer healthcare workforce in achieving this optimized accrual as well as in the design of advanced, clinically relevant cancer research.</p> Recent findings <p>Inadequate diversity in cancer research trials is often a consequence of suboptimal patient-physician communication and oncologists failing to offer clinical trials to patients with minority race/ethnicity. Increased diversity in the oncology workforce can potentially address both of these issues.</p> Summary <p>The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has partnered with the American Society of Breast Surgeons to develop a consortium of black breast surgeons that will participate in an international biobanking effort by consenting their own patients for accrual and sample contribution.</p>

Purpose of Review

This review summarizes the importance of accruing a diverse patient population onto breast cancer clinical trials and research studies. We also review the importance of diversity in the cancer healthcare workforce in achieving this optimized accrual as well as in the design of advanced, clinically relevant cancer research.

Recent findings
