<p>Obesity has become a global health crisis driven by genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors, often linked to gut microbiome imbalances. Probiotics, particularly <i>Lactobacillus</i> and <i>Bifidobacterium</i> strains, have shown promise in clinical trials by promoting weight loss, improving lipid profiles, and addressing gut dysbiosis associated with obesity. This review surveys the literature on the microbiome and obesity, emphasizing the clinical relevance of probiotics in treatment strategies. Our comprehensive PubMed search highlights the mechanisms through which probiotics influence metabolic health, including their effects on inflammation and appetite regulation. We also explore promising future research directions and the potential for integrating probiotics into clinical practice. While results are encouraging, the evidence is limited by strain variability, small sample sizes, short trial durations, and individual differences in microbiota composition. More extensive, long-term studies with standardized methods are crucial to confirm the effectiveness of probiotics as viable anti-obesity treatments.</p>
