<p>This short note presents a new observation on defect layered 1D Ternary and Quaternary photonic crystals. In this short note, it is shown that when a defect layered 1D Ternary photonic crystal is converted into a defect layered 1D Quaternary photonic crystal, its refractometric optical sensing capability significantly enhances. Therefore, for achieving high sensitivity in refractometric optical sensing, defect layered 1D Quaternary photonic crystal structures can be preferred over defect layered 1D Ternary structures.</p>

This short note presents a new observation on defect layered 1D Ternary and Quaternary photonic crystals.
