摘要

Free space optical (FSO) communication is an evolving wireless technology that provides a license-free alternative to Radio Frequency (RF) and microwave communications due to its higher bandwidth and data transmission rate. In this paper, the performance analysis of On-Off Keying (OOK), Pulse Position Modulation (PPM), Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK), Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM), and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) with a predefined link range of 3 km and an attenuation factor of 10 dB/km is carried out for a wavelength of 1550 nm. Additionally, the system performance under different weather conditions for an attenuation up to 80 dB/km is evaluated. The main objective of this paper lies in a comprehensive study of various modulation schemes for FSO communication to find the best suitable scheme for particular application. It has been done based on the scheme’s performance for various metrics such as Bit Error Rate (BER), Quality Factor (Q-Factor), and received power. The simulation and results are obtained in the OptiSystem 20 software and compared comprehensively based on the above mentioned metrics.
