Frequency encoded all-optical signed 1-bit half subtractor using photonic crystal-based semiconductor optical amplifiers

In this paper, authors propose and design a new all-optical frequency encoded signed 1-bit half subtractor based on two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal structure. The proposed half subtractor system can perform the binary subtraction between two 1-bit numbers by realizing difference bit and sign bit. To design the proposed structure, some photonic crystal semiconductor optical amplifiers (PC-SOAs), optical filters, and linear waveguides have been used.
