Improved PAPR performance of the pre-coded optical OFDM in tricolor RGB based white LED for visible light communications
摘要
Reduction of peak to average power ratio (PAPR) in optical OFDM (O-OFDM) is a challenging problem as it causes distortion due to signal clipping and degradation of transmission performance. Various schemes have been proposed to reduce PAPR in visible light communication (VLC) due to limited linear region of the light emitting diodes (LEDs) and amplifier characteristics. In this work we have proposed a precoding scheme which is based on widely used Root Raised Cosine (RRC) and Raised Cosine (RC) transforms. Theoretical analysis is made to characterize the system PAPR reduction of the proposed scheme for tri-colour RGB (Red, Green and Blue) based single white LED VLC system. It is found that the proposed precoding scheme distributes the power of each modulated symbol over the OFDM block. Multiplication with precoding matrix makes a possible set of functions that are cyclic shifts of each other and precludes the occurrence of high peak at the same time instant within the OFDM symbol duration. The complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) of PAPR of the proposed scheme is compared with the state-of the art DFT-Spread OFDM and other precoding schemes and significant improvement are found. Bit error rate performance of the proposed precoded OFDM scheme is also found significantly better compared to other schemes.
