<p>In recent years, lasers have demonstrated significant impacts on medical treatment procedures, in general, and particularly in dermatology. Consequently, the interest of both researchers and medical professionals was sparked in the potentials of laser irradiation in medicine and aesthetics. The ability of clinicians to safely and successfully treat both aesthetic and non-cosmetic skin conditions has, therefore, greatly increased. Thus far, this paper presents a review of recent progress and developments in the area of laser technology implementation for human skin treatment. The main therapeutic and cosmetic uses of laser therapy are reviewed. The laser-skin interaction and skin optical properties are illustrated. Furthermore, the review includes the most important laser processing parameters that affect skin treatments. The paper concludes with recommendations on future and potential research work necessary for progressing the field.</p>
