Design of opto-electro circuit utilizing IMI waveguides by using nano waves

Insulator Metal Insulator (IMI) plasmonic waveguides can carry surface waves in nanoscale dimensions with low propagation loss and good confinement. Three logic gates namely OR, AND, and XOR have been designed, analyzed, and simulated optically within the same structure, port position, Transmission threshold (Tthreshold), and operating wavelength using the COMSOL software package with Finite Element Method (FEM). Optical Full Adder (FA) has been realized with IMI structure using Silver as metal and Silica glass as a dielectric with a Tthreshold of 40%, operating wavelength of 1310 nm, and overall dimensions 630 nm × 300 nm. The Contrast Ratio (CR) of the optical OR, AND, and XOR gates are 11 dB, 11.9 dB, and 11 dB respectively, while the Modulation Depth (MD) for the Sum and the Carry output of the FA are 98.59% and 99.9% respectively.
