Bound state induced by a gap in fiber core
摘要
We consider cylindrical dielectric waveguide with a core having a gap. Using the variational method, we prove the existence of a bound state below the continuous spectrum threshold. An estimation for the eigenvalue is obtained. The result can be simply generalized to the case of a periodic set of the core gaps. This structure obeys the photonic crystal property: there is narrow band separated from the bottom of the continuous spectrum of the unperturbed operator by a bandgap. This property allows one to use it in scissor devices in fiber optics.
