Overall edge-reconstruction using higher-order Walsh filters

摘要

Edge reconstruction is an integral part of image analysis in modern optical image processing. This paper demonstrates relevant studies on a simple yet effective method of customized edge-boosting and overall edge-reconstruction using different orders of azimuthal Walsh filters. This method is applied in the Fourier domain here so that it can easily be adapted experimentally. The quality of edge-boosting has been evaluated using mean squared error and peak signal to noise ratio for different orders of azimuthal Walsh filters leading to the proper choice of the order of the Walsh filter—the eleventh order. The method has been successfully tested on both regular and irregular shapes implemented even on images of biological cells obtained from scanning electron microscope.
