Diode-Pumped Tunable Continuous Wave Laser Operation In Yb: NaY(WO4)2 Crystal

A diode-pumped tunable continuous wave (CW) Yb: NaY(WO4)2 laser operating in near infrared (NIR) spectral region is demonstrated for the first time. The tuning widths of the output wavelengths in the π- and σ-polarizations are 61.0 nm (from 1003.5 nm to 1064.5 nm) and 53.2 nm (from 1004.8 nm to 1058.0 nm), respectively. Continuously broadband tunable wavelengths are obtained in both polarizations by rotating the Lyot filter, respectively. At an absorbed pump power of 17.8 W at 975 nm, the maximum output powers in the π- and σ-polarization are 4.1 W at 1028.8 nm and 2.4 W at 1027.4 nm, respectively. The slope efficiencies with respect to the absorbed pump power are 24.1% at 1028.8 nm and 14.2% at 1027.4 nm, respectively.
