Comparative performance analysis of different techniques for reconstruction and quality enhancement of distorted tribal artworks

Tribal art is an important evidence and manifestation of ancient heritage and culture. Most of these type of paintings uses organic and easily available natural materials, instead of any chemical color. Although the artworks are very unique and ethnic, however they are not properly maintained or preserved, as a result the artistic creations degrade very fast and lost forever. So restoration and proper preservation of the distorted artworks are very much essential. In this paper different filtering techniques namely Gaussian filter, Wiener filter and Average (or Mean) filter along with various histogram equalization techniques such as CLAHE and BBHE have been used for the restoration of old and damaged tribal paintings. Investigation has further been extended by applying MSRCR technique for image quality enhancement. Quality of the restored images have been verified using different standard parameters like AMBE, PSNR, NMSE and CPP.
