An investigation of radio over fiber link in terms of Q-Factor for the used photonic modulator over dispersive medium

摘要

In the presented article, Mach Zehnder Modulator (MZM) based RoF link has been developed and its investigation is performed using Bessel optical filter. The proposed link architecture consists of Pseudo Random Bit Sequence (PRBS) Generator, Non-Return to Zero (NRZ) pulse generator, Laser Diode as a carrier Source, MZM modulator, Fiber Optic Loop Control System, Bessel’s optical Filter & PIN Photo Detector. The proposed RoF link is optimized in terms of measured Quality Factor, for different optical fiber impairments over dispersive medium. We used four number of iterations of loop control mechanisms, to get the desired results. we compared the measured Q-Factor, using different optical fiber impairments. The Measured Q-Factors are 263.74, 169.23, 13.39, 8.58, 8.53, & 7.57, for 1 dB/km, 2 dB/km, 5 dB/km, 10 dB/km, 12 dB/km, & 20 dB/km optical fiber impairments respectively. The highest Q-Factor shows the better Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) of detected signal strength. The use of Bessel optical filter gives the better SNR. practically low insertion loss is measured throughout the article in dB/km, unit.
