Investigation of calculus in human teeth using the combination of silicon based photonic devices and finite element method
摘要
The present paper presents the status of human teeth that is either normal (without calculus) or with calculus using two dimensional photonic structure (2D PhC) and finite element method. Photonic crystal structure is designed with 3 × 3 air holes which are etched on the silicon substrate and the samples from human teeth are infiltrated in the air holes. Furthermore, the entire packaging system comprises a laser source, 2D PhC and p-i-n photo diode through which output potential is measured. The scattering parameter (S11 and S12) which is calculated using finite element method that is a backend part of the entire estimation of calculus and it is fetched using HFSS (high frequency structure simulator). It is realised from simulation studies that the output potential clearly distinguish the “with calculus teeth from without calculus”. For example; the output potential is 937 mV, 938 mV and 939 mV for pure enamel, dentine, cementum teeth and output potential is 940 mV, 941 mV and 942 mV for calculus enamel, dentine, and cementum teeth. To sum up, the proposed method is suitable to examine the status of human teeth with respect to with and without calculus.
