Optical properties of rare earth doped Potassium Yttrium Borate

Potassium Yttrium Borate K3YB6O12 have been prepared using solid state synthesis method. Polycrystalline powder of Potassium Yttrium Borate K3YB6O12 was obtained by two step process. Initially at 4000 C, for four hours sample was sintered. Grounding and crushing of sample was done, as it cooled to room temperature. Further heating at 8000 C for 20 h resulted in polycrystalline sample. Crystal structure of prepared sample was determined using X-ray analysis. Crystal structure parameters and volume of unit cell was determined using X-ray analysis data. K3YB6O12 was doped with 1, 2, 5 and 10 mol.% of rare earth elements Ce and Tb. PL intensity was measured using a spectro-fluorometer. PL intensity was measured for these different dopants and emission was found in Blue and Green portion of the spectrum. Surface morphology was studied using SEM and EDS.
