Impact of gold nanoparticles doping on the characterization of vacuum ultraviolet MSM detector utilizing tungsten trioxide thin film

Although detecting of vacuum ultraviolet radiation (VUV, with wavelengths between 100 and 200 nm) is still difficult, it is essential in many applications. We present the creation of a Vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV) MSM detector utilizing thin films of tungsten trioxide (WO3). This manuscript describes the pyrolysis of spray deposition technique to prepare gold (Au) doped tungsten trioxide (WO3) film for use as an ultraviolet (UV) photodetector. Using the appropriate WO3: Au film, several of UV photodetectors were created depending on the amount of the Au doping concentrations (0.1, 0.3, 0.5,1, 1.5 wt% Au) used. The un-doped WO3 thin-film detector showed the least amount of photocurrent, measuring between 350 and 400 µA at 5 V bias voltages, conversely, the Au: WO3 thin-film detectors showed ~ 600 to 650 µA depending on the doping concentration. Given that the photocurrent of the Au (0.3–0.5 wt%) WO3 thin film detector was greater than that of the other detectors; it is possible that the photocurrent was higher at 5 V bias voltages. It can be observed from our results that the Au-doped WO3 films photodetectors with higher photocurrent have higher detectivity than those of un-doped in UV, Visible and IR radiation and have a good responsivity and photoconductive gain.
