摘要

To cope with the ever-increasing demand for higher bandwidth, an infrastructure that is reliable, secure, and capable of transmitting huge amounts of data is a must. So far optical fiber is highly preferred because of its extremely high bandwidth handling capacity, electromagnetic interference resistance, small size, lightweight, and reliability. Considering the large amount of data that is to be transmitted over a longer distance, pulse broadening can pose a serious hindrance to the quality of data transmission. This paper addresses the issue of dispersion and inter-symbol interference using dispersion compensating fiber in 3 various configurations (Pre, post, symmetric). Furthermore, different modulation formats (RZ,Gaussian, NRZ andCSRZ) are configured along with 3 dispersion compensation arrangements to achieve the best result over a distance of 576 km for 10 Gbps data transmission operating at 1550 nm. The receiver performance is also analyzed by considering both PIN and Avalanche photodiode.
