Design and analysis of ultralow-power all-optical EX-OR and OR logic operations with chiral Mach-Zehnder interferometer
摘要
All-optical switches having very low power consumption, high bandwidth and large extinction ratio are extremely looked-for but remarkably challenging. In this paper, we design an all-optical circuit using ultra-low power all-optical chiral material-based Mach-Zehnder interferometer (CMZI) to perform the EX-OR & OR logic operations. The chiral property of optically active material (such as Quartz) is utilized in the upper arm of the all-optical MZI to produce the desired polarization rotation. Several important circuit parameters are determined and their dependence on other important metrics such as input power and transmittance are also analysed. We have also shown the variations of extinction ratio, amplitude modulation, contrast ratio, quality factor and relative eye opening with transmittance. The use of both the output ports makes this design very efficient and promising for ultrafast all-optical information processing.
