摘要

This research proposes a temperature monitoring system utilizing the Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor. This system is implemented using hardware. FBG was utilized because it enables a transmitted wavelength of light to change in response to temperature fluctuations. The FBG sensor was integrated into a PLA (Polylactic Acid) based device with thin copper layer encapsulated on top to enhance sensitivity as copper has better thermal expansion coefficient than bare FBG. PLA is a material that can be broken down naturally, is compatible with living organisms, and is easily manipulated. It is utilized for biodegradable medical implants such as stents and implanted medicine dispensers. The PLA-based device is fabricated using 3-D printer. The results indicated that wavelength shifts sufficient to ensure the change in human body temperature as body temperature offers valuable information about an individual’s physiological condition and fluctuations in body temperature can indicate a great deal about human health.
