Case study of street lighting of an Indian University: present and future

A campus road ensures internal transportation between all departments as well as the administration building and the major road outside. Furthermore, campus roads differ from roads utilized for automotive traffic because the bulk of campus road users are pedestrians and cyclists, and these roads are covered with lush flora and vegetation. As a result, an intensive three-month investigation is conducted to examine lighting designs and schemes. Besides, a new lighting scheme is simulated using laboratory experiment-generated system file, in which Beam Angle Switching technique, an energy reduction method, is incorporated via smart controllable human-centric LED street lights. Finally, a case study is conducted to explore the current status and energy consumption of the street lighting on the Jadavpur University campus for comparison with the BAS technique, which can reduce 55.52% of electrical energy consumption saving roughly 53.14 tons of CO2 emissions per year compared to the old installed street lighting.
