<p>Mango is an important crop in tropical regions but suffers heavy losses from fruit fly infestations. This study, conducted in mango orchards of western Burundi, assessed fruit fly diversity and their impact on four local cultivars (Valencia, Kent, Boribo, Sindano). Fruit flies were collected using food baits and fruit incubation. A total of 4,322 flies were recorded, representing seven species across four genera, with <i>Bactrocera dorsalis</i> the most dominant and the only species to emerge from incubated fruits. All four cultivars were infested, with Valencia and Boribo supporting more flies than Kent and Sindano. Fallen fruits harbored more flies than harvested ones, and female abundance was linked to fruiting phenology. Results suggest Kent and Sindano may be less susceptible and could support integrated pest management, while orchard sanitation through destruction of infested fruits is recommended to reduce fruit fly damage and improve mango yield.</p>
