摘要

Sloth bears are native to the Indian subcontinent and their diet varies seasonally. Despite being a generalist species, their scavenging behaviour is poorly documented. We present the carrion acquisition and activity of a sloth bear on an ungulate carcass through a multiple day scavenging. The total feeding time and mean feeding bout duration of sloth bear was calculated at 214 min and 30.5 (± 17.1 SE) mins consequently. Additionally, we observed a bimodal activity pattern of sloth bear with a mean activity time of 18:25 (± 01:56 SE) hrs at carcass. Our observation suggests that the scavenging of sloth bear on ungulate carcass may reflects their opportunistic feeding habits.
