<p>Looking at the current child poverty debate in Germany, the offensive dynamics of class society are only marginally acknowledged. However, the precarization tendencies in the living and growing-up conditions of children and young people from the lower levels of the social hierarchy in particular, which bear witness to the explosive nature and impact of basic economic inequality, make it clear that the issue of child poverty is inscribed in the class structure and thus in the capitalist constitution of society. Against the backdrop of the reality of poor children’s lives, which is still largely structured by class-based power and domination relations, the epistemological significance of Marxism for the political education of social work will be explored below in the current perspective of a “pedagogy of the oppressed” and scrutinized for its potential for actualization.</p>
