<p>First, the essay discusses fundamental questions on intergenerational relationships in pedagogy. It frames this as a problem, thus following Klaus Mollenhauer’s way of thinking, whose approach to this problem is then discussed. Although Mollenhauer follows Schleiermacher, the relationship between generations is not at the centre of his reflexions on the understanding of education, but is rather used as a heuristic tool for discussing contemporary pedagogical issues. He thus sees it as an instrument of critical reflection, but not as a fundamental theoretical concept.</p>
