摘要

Using the example of video counseling in social work, the article illustrates how important it is to theoretically reflect on new phenomena in the context of digitalization. Theories and concepts shape our view of the world, regardless of whether we are dealing with the application of scientific theories, the propagation of ideological ideas, or the unconscious reproduction of everyday plausibilities. If there is no, too little, or too much data, theories, and concepts provide orientation. In this way, they influence personal and organizational decisions regarding the use of new technologies. The practical question of what significance video counseling should play in social work is therefore also a theoretical question and it is advisable to use scientific theories to address this question. In order to demonstrate the practical relevance of theoretical reflection, the text discusses video counseling from the perspective of five different theoretical and conceptual perspectives. Lifeworld orientation, social economy, and governance theory favor more video counseling, a systems theory perspective promotes unbiasedness, and a perspective in the tradition of critical theory prefers the non-use of video counseling.
