Universities boast about their practice-oriented education. Some students also insist that their courses should also help them in the real-world application of their studies. The current focus on practical applicability includes affirmation of social work as a subject without proper scrutiny or academic rigor. Instead, the goal is for students who graduate with social work degrees to not only be skilled in their specific areas, but also to be able to reflect on the societal context in which they work and their role within it.
