<p>The fossil site in Devonian carbonates from Hermershausen, near Marburg, initially reported by Herrmann (<CitationRef CitationID="CR33">1911</CitationRef>) has recently been rediscovered. Identification of dacryoconarid tentaculites allows for a precise age estimate of the Hermershausen Limestone. The unit ranges from the late Emsian (Early Devonian) to early Eifelian (Middle Devonian). Two new trilobite taxa <i>Cyrtosymboloides koenigshofi</i> n. sp., and <i>Piriproetus</i> (<i>Piriproetus</i>) <i>ornatissimus nictans</i> n. ssp. are described. Palaeobiogeographical relations as well as the tectonic affiliation of the locality are reassessed. A close affinity with faunas from northern Gondwana is evident and a connection to the Steinhorn nappe can be postulated.</p>
