Doliopsis duoseparata sp. nov: the first species of thaliacean described from Brazilian waters (22°-33°S)
摘要
A total of 129 specimens of Doliopsis duoseparata sp. nov. were identified from 86 plankton samples collected during the autumn and spring seasons between 2011 and 2014 on the outer shelf and slope of the South Brazilian Bight and the Southern Subtropical Shelf (22°52′46″S–33°41′28″S). All specimens corresponded to the phorozooid stage and differed from previously described species in the shape and arrangement of their muscle bands particularly in muscle band 2, which is incomplete in the anterodorsal region, the size of the caudal peduncle, the absence of a prominent papilla at the oral opening, and the number of gill bars. The discovery of Doliopsis duoseparata sp. nov. contributes to the understanding of global thaliaceans diversity, emphasizing the importance of taxonomic studies in difficult-to-access oceanic environments, such as the continental slope, and the need for further research on zooplankton biodiversity in understudied regions, such as Brazil.
