<p>The South Polar Skua, <i>Stercorarius maccormicki</i> (MacCormick’s skua), is a seabird, widespread throughout coastal regions in the Antarctic. This study has been carried out during the 39th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica (39th ISEA), during January–March 2020. As part of the study on the breeding behaviour of <i>S. maccormicki</i>, several observations were made near the nesting places around Indian Antarctic Station, Maitri. The observations were made on the nesting places and the chicks at various stages of development after hatching. We found that one of them is growing faster. There were four nesting places around Indian Antarctic station Maitri. A total of two pieces of plastic (light and dark green coloured) were collected from the nesting place of <i>S. maccormicki</i>. The plastic samples collected were analyzed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy&#xa0;(FT-IR). The spectra revealed the types of plastics as polyethylene (PE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The present study highlights the presence of marine debris in the diets of seabirds. This finding underscores the impact of plastic pollution even in remote regions like Antarctica, where it is affecting the avifauna.</p>
