<p> A morphological revision of museum specimens of the&#xa0;<i>Chiroteuthis joubini</i>&#xa0;group across several oceans has prompted a re-evaluation of the quasi-cosmopolitan distribution of the nominal species, <i>Chiroteuthis joubini</i>&#xa0;(Voss, 1967) and&#xa0;<i>Chiroteuthis spoeli</i> (Salcedo-Vargas, 1996). The results of the morphological revision indicate the presence of specimens with affinities to these nominal species. Further analysis using habitus (body shape), sucker type, eyeball photophores, and club morphology led to the identification of nine morphotypes, including two newly defined species, <i>Chiroteuthis roeleveldae</i> sp. nov. and <i>Chiroteuthis australopacificus</i> sp. nov. The remaining morphotypes are preliminarily diagnosed for future studies and species confirmation. Morphological studies continue to provide valuable information that helps clarify the taxonomy and improve the systematics of these poorly known families.</p>

 A morphological revision of museum specimens of the Chiroteuthis joubini group across several oceans has prompted a re-evaluation of the quasi-cosmopolitan distribution of the nominal species, Chiroteuthis joubini (Voss, 1967) and Chiroteuthis spoeli (Salcedo-Vargas, 1996).
