Quantitative Analysis of Line Density (LDT) Tool Vs. Drainage/lineaments/roads (DLR) Density Analyst Extension (1.0) Methods in Mapping Drainage Density and Similar Natural Linear Features

Line density maps, such as drainage density and lineament density, have been adopted extensively to improve the understanding of prevailing groundwater condition of a region. Line density maps such as drainage density and lineament density have been adopted extensively to improve the prevailing groundwater condition of a region. In this study, density maps were generated by employing two different methods, considering the drainage network of the Betwa basin line density analysis methods and the Betwa basin drainage network as an input vector layer simulated using ASTER DEM. This study aims to compare two methodologies by superimposing the drainage network over the obtained results and attempt to address the advantage of a particular method over another for various linear hydro-geomorphological parameters. The comparison of these two methodologies reveals that the outcome of the Line Density Tool (LDT) method is a highly subjective matter and can be regulated through input criteria. However, in the Drainage/Lineaments/Roads (DLR) density analyst extension (1.0) method, the outcome closely resembles the drainage network, which proves appropriate while addressing a multi-criteria approach to the study.
