<p>Mangaluru, a prominent port city on India’s west coast, holds significant archaeological importance, as documented through historical maps, paintings, and literary texts. Historical maps of the Portuguese and Bangel Forts have provided essential details about the region’s topography, history, and archaeology. However, these Fortifications remained unidentified and neglected despite their considerable historical and cultural value. The study utilized geospatial technology to uncover the ruins of the Portuguese and Bangel Forts. High-resolution (0.5 and 5.6&#xa0;m) multi-spectral remote sensing data, Cartosat Digital Elevation Model (10&#xa0;m), historical maps, paintings, and documents were analyzed on a GIS platform to identify the remnants of these Fortifications. Old plan maps were georeferenced, and pertinent information was extracted through digitization. Visual identification from oblique maps and paintings also provided valuable insights. Furthermore, the study demonstrated the effectiveness of geospatial techniques, such as image and elevation analysis, in identifying archaeological features. By integrating historical maps from different periods, satellite imagery, and a digital elevation model (DEM) within a Geographic Information System (GIS) platform, comprehensive maps were produced illustrating the extent and structure of the Forts as they existed between the 15th to 17th centuries. Visibility analysis and virtual construction of the Forts using GIS techniques yielded satisfactory results. Field verification confirmed the identified ruins of the Forts, which were predominantly located within 4&#xa0;km of the confluence of the Nethravathi and Gurupura rivers. Bangel Fort was found to be closer (300&#xa0;m) to the old Mangaluru city port, while the Portuguese Fort was situated nearer (200&#xa0;m) to the old harbor. The study also employed GIS and spatial statistical methods, including mean center, standard distance, and standard deviational ellipse, to visualize the spatial patterns of archaeologically significant sites. Findings revealed that the majority of the archaeological remnants were clustered near the river mouth. These results contribute valuable insights into Mangaluru’s historical landscape and provide essential data for preserving and restoring these archaeological sites for future generations.</p>
