<p>Groundwater is an important resource which significantly contributes to the yearly water supply. The shortage of water is becoming a serious issue in the Imphal-Nambul river basin as the agricultural and industrial sectors grow, as does the population. Because of its high water use and limited fresh water supply, it requires more groundwater study and investigation. This study’s objective is to assess and map the Groundwater Potential Zone (GWPZ) in the Imphal-Nambul river sub-basin using the Geographic Information system (GIS) and Analytical Hierarchal Process (AHP) approach to guide the degrees of groundwater accessibility and extraction suitability. The thematic layers of the sub-basin are created using imagery from satellite and accompanying data which include lithology, Topographic Position Index (TPI), rainfall, geomorphology, slope, drainage density (Dd), curvature, land use land cover (LULC) and lineament density (Ld). Each thematic layer employs a multi-criteria assessment approach. The weighted overlay index is used to assign a rank to each parameter by analyzing the data. Furthermore, each thematic layer is weighted in accordance with the AHP technique. The reliability of the output is assessed through the relatively acceptable approximated consistency index and ratio (0.061 &lt; 0.1). The Frequency Ratio (FR) technique is carried out for validation using groundwater deep well data. The analysis resulted in three distinct categories being identified on the GWPZ map: good, moderate, and poor. According to the findings, about 55.50% of the area is considered as zone with moderate groundwater potential. Area covered under good and poor groundwater potential is 28.01% &amp; 16.48%, respectively.</p>
