Evaluation and Comparison of the Accuracy and Integrity of GPS Single-Point Positioning Using EGNOS Corrections
摘要
The objective of this study is to evaluate the accuracy and integrity of the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay System (EGNOS) in Algeria. To achieve this, real GPS data were collected from three geographical locations at varying latitudes. Three civil aviation approaches were considered: the approach with vertical guidance (APV-1 and APV-2), and the localizer performance with vertical guidance at 200 feet (LPV 200). The results show that the EGNOS performance varies depending on the geographical location of each site relative to the Ranging Integrity Monitoring Stations (RIMS). At Oran, the positioning accuracy and integrity are notably better compared to one observed at Adrar and Djanet. In Oran, the positioning error is consistently less than 1.30 m with GPS + EGNOS, while GPS alone can yield errors up to 3 m. Additionally, the integrity is ensured for APV-1 with 99.92% availability. For Adrar, the results demonstrate that the positioning accuracy and integrity are not significantly improved by applying EGNOS corrections. For Djanet, horizontal and vertical accuracies are 3.44 m and 4.10 m respectively for GPS only, while GPS + EGNOS results are 8.20 m and 4.10 m respectively. The availability is worse for APV and LPV 200, with a maximum availability of 10.85%. The results highlight the crucial importance of setting up a RIMS station in Algeria. Its absence significantly reduces the accuracy and integrity of EGNOS, especially when moves towards the south of the country, rendering the EGNOS system practically unable to monitor GPS satellites effectively. The deployment of a RIMS station can significantly improve EGNOS performance in Algeria.
