<p>Riverbank erosion poses a&#xa0;risk to the stability of civil engineering structures. Multitemporal satellite data, topographical map sheet, and GIS-based comparative assessment of channel configurations of the past five decades have been carried out to assess the risk posed to one of the civil engineering projects namely the Arjunpur–Baragaon Bridge across the Ramganga River in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh (India). A detailed assessment of bank erosion, and channel migration of a particular sector of the Ramganga River in the upstream and immediate downstream and also that of the nearby sector of the Ganga River has been carried out. The study reveals that the Ramganga River has witnessed successive easterly migration and witnessed a major channel avulsion in Pattipur–Hussainpur Sector between 1975 and 2023 and is presently flowing some 1.07&#xa0;km eastward of its earlier position of 1975. The river is witnessing severe bank erosion in this sector on its eastern bank in&#xa0;the Nago Pather Purva–Baragaon Sector and could capture the abandoned relict channel in the immediate west of Nago Pathar Purva village and poses a risk to the approach to the A1 side abutment of the Arjunpur–Baragaon Bridge during high floods. Interestingly, the active flood plains of the Ganga and Ramganga rivers in the immediate west of this bridge are merely 750&#xa0;m apart near Arjunpur village in 2023. Abandoned/relict channels (occupying the closely aligned active flood plains of the two rivers) are some active pathways for the flood waters particularly during the rainy season. The excess water of the Ganga River flows into the abandoned channel of Ramganga (known as Arjunpur Ramganga) during the rainy season. Any resultant increase in the discharge of this abandoned channel may cause severe wear and tear of the A-2 side abutment of the Bridge. Bank protection measures to minimize severe bank erosion along with drainage outlets and wider passageways are urgently required for the relict channel passing across the eastern&#xa0;bank abutment of the Bridge near Baragaon.</p>
