Road Network Optimization in Burdwan City, West Bengal: A GIS Perspective
摘要
Transport plays a significant role in city efficiency. India has the second largest road network in the world. Most Indian cities are characterized by high road densities and complex road network structure. Geographic information system is a valuable tool for analyzing the complex relationships and patterns within a city’s transportation network. The study aims to evaluate the coverage, connectivity, and accessibility of the road network within the Burdwan city, which is located in the Indian state of West Bengal. Through spatial mapping and statistical analysis, the study reveals a strong correlation between road density and population density, also investigates the connectivity and accessibility of different areas within the city by considering graph theory and shortest path matrix. By analyzing these factors, the research identifies areas which experience limitation of accessibility and also suggests potentiality for improvement. The study emphasizes the importance of strategic road network planning to accommodate the growing population and ensure sustainable and efficient urban development in cities of developing countries.
