<p>The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment established a&#xa0;citizens’ council for the Volksgezondheid Toekomst Verkenning 2024 (Public Health Foresight Study). A&#xa0;diverse group of 30&#xa0;citizens provided new perspectives, reflected on health themes, and formulated solutions. Their input gave new and broader insights. Both citizens and researchers valued this contribution. Also, areas for improvement included earlier involvement of the citizens’ council, clearer influence and visibility, and greater process flexibility. These experiences highlight the value of citizens participation and the importance of further developing and applying this approach in future research and policymaking.</p>
